What is it?

Two Factor Authentication (2FA) provides users with the ability to add an additional layer of security to their account by adding an extra step to the sign in process.

When switched on, after a user signs in (using any sign in method), they will be required to enter a randomised and expiring authentication code that is generated by an app on their device.

In doing so, the only way for someone sign in to your account is if they know your password and have access to the authentication app on your device.

Note: We recommend the use of 2FA for all users of Cloud Assess. We also recommend that you use it for any other online applications you use if it is available.

Switching 2FA on

You can turn on 2FA by clicking on your name in the sidebar and selecting "Your Account".

Then select the "Security" tab and click "Enable Two Factor Authentication".

You will be prompted to:

  • Install the Google Authenticator App (or equivalent authentication app) on your device

  • Open the authentication app and scan the barcode or enter the code manually

  • Click "Next"

Enter your current password and the code generated by the authentication app then click "Next".

You have now enabled 2FA and added an extra layer of security to your account!

Save your Backup Codes somewhere safe!

You will then be provided with a list of Backup Codes. These codes can be used to login if you lose the device that has your authentication app on it.

Make sure these codes are stored somewhere safe but in a different location to the authentication app. Otherwise, if you lose your device with both the authentication app and the backup codes on it then you will not be able to access your account.

Switching 2FA off

You can only switch 2FA off if you are logged into your account. Simply click the "Disable" button that is located in the same place as where you switched it on.
